Staffcare works alongside organisations and their staff
to support employees through periods of difficulty or
stress that may have an impact on their health and wellbeing.
It was formed in 1992, following experience gained
in responding to the psychological needs of those involved
in major incidents such as air disasters and terrorist
attacks. The service has evolved to include support
for everyday stressful situations that affect home and
work environments as well as offering training, consultancy
and mediation.
Staffcare has a network of 250 counsellors who provide
confidential counselling and support throughout Ireland
and Britain to over 120 organisations and their employees.
These include government departments, County Councils,
Emergency Services, Hospitals, Social Services Departments,
financial institutions, Educational Boards, and private
companies. Staff numbers in such organisations range
from 15 upwards.
Staffcare holds organisational membership of the British
Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)
and of the Association for Counselling at Work. Accreditation
of counsellors is validated through BACP; the Irish
Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP),
the British Psychological Society and the Psyhological
Society of Ireland and some counsellors have chosen
to use the Association of Christian Counsellors.
